Who we are
-
Oh hi! We are Drew and Monica Dumas. We are both active musicians who work all over the lower mainland and we are so excited to be able to finally open up our home studio in Pitt Meadows, BC to students!
A quick run down of who we are as a team:
We were married in 2018 and have two wonderful sons, a dog and a cat. We met doing musicals (specifically Annie in 2014) and we are still actively working as musicians. We moved to Pitt Meadows in 2024 and are so excited to call it home.
In the past year (2025), there have been unsettling grumblings of budget cuts within the school systems that have targeted the music community specifically. So we talked it over, and now here we are, trying to create an opportunity for young musicians to have the same opportunities that we had growing up. While we are currently offering only private lessons, we have plans to create something bigger. Stick around and watch the magic happen :) -
Drew was born and raised in Maple Ridge, attended Thomas Haney Secondary School, and studied music at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and The University of British Columbia. He studied with John van Deursen, Greg Cox, and Andrew Poirier. He has performed with Orchestras, Wind Ensembles, Brass Quintets and more all over the lower mainland and abroad. Most notably, he has performed (and continues to perform) with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, Turning Point Ensemble, A Touch of Brass, and Vancouver Brass Orchestra to name a few. He has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the likes of Weird Al Yankovic, Jim Byrnes, Sigur Ros (upcoming!), Lee Holdridge, and more. Outside of classical music, he currently plays bass trombone in Matt Grinke’s “Happiest Big Band on Earth,” and has also performed (and continues to perform) in many, many pit orchestras for musical theatre productions.
As an educator, Drew has been a guest clinician at major music festivals, been a guest clinician for many school retreats, and had an active private lesson studio of students who have gone on to study at major universities all over the world. He has 15+ years of experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels.

For over a decade, Monica Dumas has been giving her all to what she does best – playing bass professionally. She graduated from Capilano University in 2016 receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies with a major in Music Education. There, Monica studied with Jodi Proznick, André Lachance and Darren Radke. While at Capilano University, she has performed with and for many artists in the music industry: Bill Frisell, Ian McDougall, David Braid, Ingrid Jensen, Norma Winstone and many others.
Through relentless schedules and endless rehearsals, Monica found her passion in musical performance as a freelance musician. Versatile in different styles, she has performed with the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, the Bruce James Orchestra, the Dal Richards Orchestra, Sister Jazz Orchestra, the Leading Ladies Little Big Band, The Happiest Big Band on Earth, Diane Lines, Amanda Sum and many others in the lower mainland.
Monica has been mostly found in pit orchestras for musical theatre productions throughout the Lower Mainland and luck enough to have over 60 musical credits to her name. While she primarily performs as a bassist, she is an award winning music director and has begun to shift focus towards music directing. She is the recipient for the 2020 CTC Award for Best Music Director with her involvement in Girlfriend (Fighting Chance Productions).
